The UN Women flagship programme “Empowering Women through Climate-Resilient Agriculture in West and Central Africa” enhanced women’s economic empowerment and climate resilience by improving access to land, finance, technology, and markets.
It enabled over 13,000 women to secure land, supported 3,700 women farmers with finance, and helped 17,000 adopt climate smart agricultural techniques.
The initiative strengthened over 200 women’s cooperatives, facilitated organic certification and export readiness for nearly 2,000 women, and promoted renewable energy use in agriculture. Women’s productivity, income, and market access increased significantly, while cooperatives grew stronger and more resilient, especially during the COVID-19 crisis.
Overall, the programme reduced gender barriers, improved livelihoods, and built more climate-resilient rural communities across the region.
