  5. Women’s Access to Rural Finance Challenges and Opportunities

This report examines the barriers and solutions to improving rural women’s financial inclusion. It highlights how sociocultural norms, lack of collateral, limited education, and weak institutional capacity restrict women’s access to credit and other financial services.

On the supply side, financial institutions often lack gender sensitive products, adequate delivery mechanisms, and female representation.

The report showcases good practices such as alternative collateral, group based lending, mobile banking, and financial literacy programs.

It emphasises the need for gender responsive policies, institutional reforms, gender disaggregated data collection, and collaboration between financial, social protection, and development initiatives to ensure sustainable, inclusive financial systems that empower rural women economically and socially.
