The 2023 Findings on the Worst Forms of Child Labor: Democratic Republic of the Congo report details the country’s minimal progress in addressing child labor, despite some initiatives like piloting a Child Labor Monitoring and Remediation System in artisanal cobalt mining. The report highlights serious ongoing issues, including the recruitment of children by armed groups with support from national forces, gaps in legal protections, lack of enforcement data, and systemic barriers to education. While some programs have been launched, such as free primary education and new coordination bodies, funding shortfalls and weak enforcement continue to impede meaningful advancement. This report offers a critical examination of the challenges and needed reforms to eliminate child labor in the DRC.
