Inclusivity in the workplace

Value Match are a value-orientated organisation and hold social value at the core of our beliefs.  Our values are broken down to four core groups: Value People, Value Relationships, Sustainable Prosperity and Value the Environment.  Inclusivity in the workplace directly aligns with Value People and Value Relationships and as such at Value Match we ensure all our candidates, colleagues, customers, and partners are made to feel included and valued.

Working in an inclusive work environment is critical in the modern day.  In any professional setting not feeling included has huge repercussions for the individual and the business.  To create an inclusive environment everyone must feel as though they are being treated with dignity and respect, where the talents and skills of different groups are valued.  This will increase moral, and productivity.

This is how to improve your inclusivity

  1. Take ownership of Inclusivity.

Be forthcoming about the potential changes that will be made to improve inclusivity.  These will need to be based on your companies needs and requirements.  The goals may involve promoting more female managers, establishing recruitment incentives for certain demographic groups or cultures, or including technology training for employees so they feel included, and their contributions are being noticed.

When you take responsibility for inclusivity it can work as a benchmark that employees can aim for.  It also means you’re able to measure the growth of inclusion allowing you to reach these goals.

  1. Incorporate Diversity

With the improvement of technology, we can be connected to each other in seconds on a global level.  Exposing ourselves to different cultures, people religion, personalities and collaborating will bring a better working environment.  Understanding different colleagues background, cultures, and beliefs will also help everyone feel more included.  .

  1. Inclusivity Training

Conducting inclusivity training and investing in your team and employees demonstrates that your organisation is making a conscious effort towards making the workplace an inclusive environment. This could also involve diversity training and sensitivity training.

  1. Keep an Open Dialog.

To maintain inclusivity within the workplace you will need constant nurturing, dedication to embed an inclusive ethos at the core of your organisation.  Internal engagement surveys are perfect to analyse areas that need improvements and if employees are feeling engaged, included, and valued at work.  This data will allow you to pinpoint further areas that need improvement.

By taking charge and seeking out feedback that is focused on  inclusion  demonstrates that you’re making a conscious effort to make improvements.  Focused feedback provides a diplomatic process for open dialogue and mobilises employees to work towards larger objectives.

Lead by example through articulating a clear vision by starting new initiatives, and inspiring employee’s commitment through data collection and positive feedback.  The most important thing is that all employees feel included within their working environment.  This will help your business to become more progressive and build on better moral.

Whilst we ourselves embed our values at the core of what we do, we also ensure we’re as inclusive as possible externally.  Due to our blind screening of CV’s we don’t include our candidate’s ethnicity or disabilities and we don’t ask about their sexual preferences or gender identities.  This ensures our candidates are screened based on their talent, removing the chance of unconscious bias.

Value People – We value People for their uniqueness, capability, capacity for change and for what they do.

Value Relationships – We value Relationships that are built on integrity, mutual support, trust, and a sense of purpose.

Sustainable Prosperity – We believe in creating sustainable prosperity through commercial interventions that supports responsible and inclusive growth for both individuals and organisations.

Value the Environment – We believe in enhancing our Environment through the way we operate, championing environmental best practices and delivery through our service lines.

We also have various projects that we are involved with such as KitAid, Kiva and a Carbon offsetting programme through Carbon Footprint.  These all just a few of the ways we ensure we are inclusive and demonstrate and embed our values.

We also work with Me Learning to provide courses based around diversity through our own Social Value courses, both our own courses and their Equality and Diversity courses will help you develop an understanding of the importance of diversity in the work place and can serve as a benchmark for you and your employees.

Practitioner Led Procurement, Bid Management & Social Value Training

Background

The Value Match team has designed and delivered a broad range of procurement programmes, from large procurement transformations, building procurement operations, to delivering specific sourcing events or implementing eCommerce solutions. We have extensive experience in the public and private sectors and have managed major procurement change programmes nationally and globally.

One of the most challenging aspects of any procurement transformation programme is ensuring access to the right level of skills and capability to deliver.  Traditionally, procurement training has been provided by membership organisations, often within a linear developmental structure and costing thousands of pounds. Despite this, courses can still lack practical guidance for individuals on how to deliver their role more effectively. Value Match courses emphasise how learners can begin adding value from the moment that they complete the course.

Our Solution

Value Match Academy is designed to support individuals and organisations to improve the capabilities that they need to deliver for their roles, instantly. Courses can be accessed through our dedicated learning management system, ensuring the learner can access the course 24/7 and revisit learning points.

The courses are practitioner led, last no longer than 1 hour with the aim for the learner to be able to walk away and complete the tasks covered within the training more effectively than before.  We believe enhancing individual’s capability is fundamental to organisations delivering better outcomes, supports individual development and demonstrates an organisations investment in employees.

Our solution tests the learners understand by engaging them throughout the course and asking them to complete a short ‘quiz’ at the end of each course, following which, they are presented with a certificate of completion.

We currently have range of courses available through the Value Match Academy, we will be adding additional  courses throughout the year focused on providing the practical building blocks for individual’s or team’s professional development.

Cyber Essentials Plus Certification – Our Latest Accreditation

Cyber Essentials Plus Certification – Our Latest Accreditation

“In achieving Cyber Essentials+ Certification, Value Match is continuing to demonstrate our commitment to professionalism and industry best practice.” David Shields, Value Match Director

Cyber Essentials is an information assurance scheme operated by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).  It was launched in June 2014 by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and is endorsed by the UK Government.  Cyber Essentials certification has been required for suppliers to central UK government who handle sensitive and personal information since October 2014 (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/procurement-policy-note-0914-cyber-essentials-scheme-certification).

It includes an assurance framework and straightforward security controls to protect information from threats coming from the internet.  It aims to assist organisations to adopt good practice around information security, preventing unauthorised access to the vast amounts of personal information we store online.

Certification involves conducting an independently verified self-assessment.  Organisations assess themselves against five basic security controls and a qualified assessor verifies the information provided.

The five main technical controls are:

  1. Boundary firewalls and internet gateways: network security systems that monitor and control incoming and outgoing network traffic based on predetermined security rules.
  2. Secure configuration: provides visibility and control of its performance, functional, and physical attributes.
  3. Access control: the selective restriction of access to a place or other resource.
  4. Malware protection: protection from any software intentionally designed to cause damage to a computer, server, client, or computer network.
  5. Patch management: A patch is a set of changes to a computer program or its supporting data designed to update, fix, or improve it, including fixing security vulnerabilities.

The five basic controls within Cyber Essentials were chosen because, when properly implemented, they will help to protect against unskilled internet-based attackers using commodity capabilities – which are freely available on the internet.

Cyber Essentials Plus continues the Cyber Essentials trademark simplicity of approach, the protections and requirements, but Cyber Essentials Plus is a hands-on technical verification and audit, which when passed demonstrates an organisations compliance to the standard.

Organisations that undertake Cyber Essentials are encouraged to recertify at least once a year and, where appropriate, progress their security.

KitAid 2020/21 Annual Review

Lindsay, our services director is a volunteer Regional Coordinator for KitAid, a charity that recycles your once loved football kit and distributes it to underprivileged children and adults in some of the world’s poorest countries.

A football shirt, full kit or boots can help KitAid partner charities to engage with the communities they work in to deliver their projects.  Projects can include education, social inclusion, crime prevention, drug/alcohol misuse, protecting endangered chimpanzees from poachers and preventing gun related gang murders.

KitAid have recently released their Annual Review for 2020 and is available to download below.  This year the review is full of positive news stories and details of projects that KitAid continue to support during the pandemic.  It is incredible to think that despite months of lockdown, KitAid continue to manage to send over 74,000 items.

Our favourite story is the story of a group of Malawi orphans who KitAid first engaged with in 2019.  The group have joined to form a team and have had a run of success winning the Football Bonanza trophy by beating every team and not conceding a single goal throughout the tournament.

June Kiva Update

During the last month we have continued to support women-owned businesses with a positive environmental and community impact via Kiva.  Throughout May and June we have completed 8 loans and contributed to 3 that are still fund raising.  As a team we have loaned an additional $1,000 and so far loaned $9,375 across 112 loans.

These are the projects we have contributed towards.

Alice’s Group’s story

Alice is a 54-year-old mother of 5, as a group leader she represents her groups 11 farmers in Alego District, Kenya.

Alice is returning after paying back her last loan, this season Alice is partnered with One Acre Fund which enables her to earn enough to feed her family, this is why Alice is a member of Kiva.  Alice is happy to that she made the decision to apply for funding through Kiva as this has enabled her to feed her family.  The profits made from this season will go towards sending her children to school.

The group will use this loan to purchase seeds and fertilizer to plant 4.5 acres of land. Given that some members of the group will also be purchasing a solar light, with this loan, the group will also be able to purchase a solar light.

Yadi Del Socorro’s story

Yadi is a young woman who raises two children alone as a single mother.  Yadi started selling fruits at the market, but over time, has transitioned to agriculture by planting cassava and corn.  Now she also cultivates bananas as her business takes off.

Yadi chose to request a Kiva loan from MiCrédito in order to pay for the maintenance of two plots of bananas, fertilizers, and compost. Soon, she would like to expand and diversify her crops.

Fatmata’s Female Farmers Group’s story

Fatmata C is the the featured borrower of Fatmata’s Female Farmers.  Last season they got a loan which enabled the group’s members to become independent from local lender who were charging almost 100% interest.  This resulted in all the group fully recovering their businesses and repaying their first loan from Kiva and are back to successfully farming their land.

Fatamata is looking for a second loan to further expand her and her groups businesses.  The COVID-19 pandemic has started to cause food shortages in areas of Sierra Leone and rice is becoming more limited.  The profits from this loan will guarantee all the members children go to school.

Suha’s story

47-year-old and mother of 3 Suha, lives with her family in Ya’abad village, West Bank. Her husband is a taxi driver however, his income just about covers their basic needs.  Suha works on a farm to help support her husband and provide for her children, the farm grows various vegetables and sells them.

Suha turned to Palestine for Credit and Development FATEN to request a loan to purchase seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides for her land.  This will increase her production and enhance her income.

Kiva is a great not-for-profit organisation that uses loans in order to create a sustainable way of donating.  Value Match has been supporting them for several years and we will continue to do so.
